April – Habits and Patterns

April — and autumn is settling in beautifully around us here in Queensland. 🔥

There’s something about this season — the slowing, the cooling, the invitation to turn a little more inward — that makes it perfect for this month’s exploration.

Because what we’re looking at in April is something that operates mostly in the background of our lives. Quietly, consistently, largely without our conscious input.

    Habits and Patterns.

Not the dramatic ones — the quiet everyday ones. The way we reach for the phone before we’ve fully woken up. The mental loop we run when something doesn’t go to plan. The automatic yes we give before we’ve even checked in with ourselves. The way we manage discomfort — with busyness, with scrolling, with staying perpetually in doing mode so there’s no space for things to surface that we’d rather not face.

Here’s what’s worth understanding about patterns: they were almost always useful once. They developed for good reasons, in response to real circumstances. The ones that served us then aren’t necessarily the ones that serve us now — but without awareness, they just keep running.

The work of conscious growth isn’t about criticising yourself for having patterns. It’s about developing enough awareness to actually choose — rather than simply responding on autopilot to whatever programme has been running longest.

April is about exactly that kind of honest, curious noticing.

I’m looking forward to this one with you. 💛
