April – Habits & Patterns: Week 2
A question for your week… 🔥
Patterns don’t usually persist because we’re unaware of them. Often we know, on some level, exactly what we do and why. The more interesting question is: what does the pattern give us?
Every habit — even the ones we’d rather not have — serves a function. The late-night scrolling is often not really about content. It’s about postponing the moment of lying in the dark with your own thoughts. The busyness that never quite allows for stillness isn’t really about productivity. It’s about what stillness might surface if we gave it the chance.
Understanding what a pattern gives us — the relief, the distraction, the sense of control, the avoidance of something uncomfortable — is more useful than simply criticising ourselves for having it. Because it points us toward what we actually need, which is almost always something more honest and more nourishing than the pattern itself.
This week’s prompt:
Is there a pattern or habit in your life that you keep returning to even when you’d rather not — and if you’re honest, what does it actually give you? What is it managing or avoiding?
Only share what feels comfortable. This question is worth sitting with privately first if needed. 💛
