April – Habits & Patterns: Week 3
Something to explore this week… 🔥
There’s a particular quality that the people who change most effectively seem to share — and it’s not willpower.
It’s curiosity.
They approach their own patterns with the same interested, non-judgmental attention they might bring to an interesting problem. Not what’s wrong with me? but isn’t that interesting — I wonder why I do that.
This distinction matters more than it sounds. Self-criticism actually entrenches patterns — the shame and judgment make the pattern more charged, more defended, more likely to express itself sideways when we’re not looking. Curiosity, on the other hand, tends to loosen things. When we stop fighting a pattern and simply get interested in it, it often loses some of its grip.
For people on a conscious growth path, this can be genuinely counterintuitive — because we care so much about changing that we tend to treat our patterns as problems to defeat rather than information to understand.
This week’s prompt:
What would it feel like to approach one of your recurring patterns with genuine curiosity rather than frustration or judgment — just for this week? What might you notice that criticism has been hiding?
Share what feels right. This is an experiment worth trying. 💛
