Something to explore this week… 🔥

Grief takes energy — even when it’s quiet and background. Even when nobody around us knows we’re carrying it. Even when we’ve become so accustomed to it that we’ve stopped registering it as grief and started registering it as just the way we feel.

Which means that genuinely caring for ourselves while we’re carrying grief — or moving through it — is not optional. It’s necessary.

And here’s what’s interesting about compassionate self-care in the context of grief: it tends not to look like the things we often label as self-care. It tends to look more like permission. Permission to rest more than usual. Permission to need more support. Permission to be less productive, less available, less capable — for a time — without making that mean something terrible about who you are.

It tends to look like adjusting your expectations of yourself to match your actual current capacity, rather than holding yourself to a standard that assumes you’re carrying nothing.

For people who are used to functioning at a high level — who have built their identity partly around their capacity and reliability — this kind of permission can be the hardest thing to give themselves.

    This week’s prompt:

When you’re carrying something heavy — even quietly, even invisibly — how do you tend to treat yourself? Do you adjust, or do you push through and hold the same standard regardless? And what does that cost you?

Share what feels right. This is worth sitting with honestly. 💛
