June – Radical Self-Compassion
June is just 1 day away — and winter will arrive on the Sunshine Coast with its invitation to slow down, go quiet, and turn genuinely inward. 🔥
And this is the month we’re exploring something that sounds simple on the surface and turns out to be surprisingly challenging in practice: Radical Self-Compassion.
Most people who find their way to spaces like this one have already encountered the concept. They understand it intellectually. They can articulate it clearly. They offer it freely to others — with real warmth and genuine ease.
And yet, in their own private experience — in the moment the mistake happens, in the 3am spiral, in the quiet assessment of whether they’ve done enough, been enough, shown up sufficiently — the inner voice tells a very different story.
That gap between knowing self-compassion and actually living it is where most of us spend a significant amount of time. And it’s worth being honest about that, because pretending the gap isn’t there doesn’t help close it.
The inner critic didn’t develop to harm us. It developed, usually very early, as a form of protection — a way of managing external expectations, pre-empting criticism from others, or trying to drive better performance. It was doing its best with what it had. That doesn’t mean it’s still serving us.
Winter is a good season for this kind of quiet, honest work. The turning inward that comes naturally in the cold is exactly the quality of attention this month is going to ask of us.
I’m genuinely looking forward to walking through this one with you. 💛
